It seemed like it was recovering a week ago, but the euro continues to fall, reaching exchange rates of 106.44 Albanian lek, from previously 107.6 Albanian lek.

Even though the Bank of Albania purchased around 15 million euros to supplement the reserves, this measure did not appear sufficient to halt the continuous depreciation.

The main factors for the weak euro continue to be the high supply of currency in the market, which has increased due to the tourism season in the country, and it is expected to continue as the summer season advances, particularly in the month of August.

Experts also do not exclude another significant factor, which is the circulation of informal money in the market, which continues to destabilize the situation.

Apart from internal factors, the depreciation of the euro also comes from the devaluation of the currency in international exchanges, where the exchange rate with the dollar reached 1.084, down from 1.1 dollars a week ago.

On the other hand, the dollar has strengthened due to improved indicators and economic performance in the U.S. markets.

Unlike the euro, the exchange rate for the dollar is 98.15 Albanian lek, 0.35 points more than before.

The euro is considered a closely linked currency to the market. Throughout the year, the currency has traded on average at 112.8 Albanian lek, below the previous average of 114. This level is considered historically low, while the average for 2022 was nearly 119 Albanian lek.

The sharp decline in the currency began in May, during the period of local elections, and it seemed to have stopped after the end of the campaign to restore previous balances. However, the strong depreciation continues unabated.
