During this week, the movement “Europe Now” will send invitations to political parties for concrete negotiations on the formation of the new government.
Invitations will also be sent to representatives of the “For the Future of Montenegro” coalition led by Milan Knežević, who is known as a pro-Serb nationalist, with the aim of withdrawing recognition for Kosovo.
On July 14, the State Election Commission officially announced the results of the parliamentary elections, fulfilling the formal conditions for the start of negotiations on the formation of the government.
The leader of “Europe Now” and the prime ministerial candidate for the new government Milojko Spajić seems to have reached an agreement with the Democratic Front of Aleksa Bečić, excluding the URA Movement of Dritan Abazović, which ran together in the general parliamentary elections, with the Bosniak Party, the Croatian Civic Initiative, and two Albanian coalitions for the formation of the government.
Ambassadors of the United States and the European Union in Montenegro had earlier made it known that the leaders of “For the Future of Montenegro” coalition, known as pro-Serb and pro-Russian, are not their allies, sending a message not to be part of the governing coalition.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia, Ivica Dačić, stated that it would be bad news if the new government of Montenegro does not include Serbs, who make up about 30 percent of the country’s population.
In an interview with Politico, he said it would be “a bad message that the negative attitude towards Serbs will continue”.
Dačić also emphasized that the visit of the President of Montenegro Jakov Milatović to Serbia was very important and took place in the best possible atmosphere.
“After a long time, we had an important meeting at the highest level, at the level of two presidents, and it was confirmed that Serbia and Montenegro are the closest countries in the region and should remain so. It is important that President Milatović, after Brussels, came to visit Belgrade, because it is also a strong signal that our relations are normalizing and that with the political changes in Podgorica, we are getting closer to each other. Bad news would be if the new government of Montenegro does not include Serbs, who make up about 30 percent of the country’s population. It is a bad message that the negative attitude towards Serbs will continue,” said Dačić.
“For the Future of Montenegro” coalition stated that after the announcement of the final election results, they are ready for negotiations with the movement “Europe Now” and other parties.
However, the leader of the coalition, Milan Knežević, in addition to attempting to withdraw recognition for Kosovo from the Municipality of Zeta, recently commented on the concert of the well-known Albanian tenor Rame Lahaj, saying that he had the impression that Ulcinj is not in Montenegro.
