Young people in Gjirokastër are filling jobs in the tourism and tourist services sector.

There are about 500 vacancies in this sector, most of which in this tourist season are being filled by high school students and university students.

Dalbero Çela, a student, has been managing a service business in the characteristic market for several days. He appreciates tourism as a good opportunity for employment of young people.

“Seeing that Albania’s main focus in the coming years is tourism, the best way to engage myself and some other young people of my age group is to do a tourist job in our country this is how we give life to our country and do not leave to other countries” – said Çela, business administrator.

High school student Elektra Liti is working as a tour guide for a local tour operator this summer. It guides tourists, mostly foreigners, to see the historical and constructional values ​​of the stone city up close.

“It is something good because it is an employment opportunity for the young people of Gjirokastër. I have been working in this office for several weeks and everything is perfect and very good” – Liti added.

“Our employment sector provides information for tourists, about our country which they do not know, provides maps with which they will be guided, or we guide them through tours” – she said among other things.

There are over 60 thousand domestic and foreign tourists who have visited Gjirokastër, enlivening the stone town and bringing income to the local economy.
