The Special Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Kosovo has recently filed an indictment against an individual identified as Z.A. on allegations of committing war crimes against the civilian population during the Kosovo conflict.

Z.A., a Serbian national, was apprehended on March 7, and subsequently, on March 8, the Pristina Basic Court ordered his pre-trial detention for a month.

According to the Prosecutor’s Office statement, Z.A. is accused of cruelly stopping and torturing the injured civilian B.M., in the center of Kamenica town, inflicting severe bodily harm, trauma, and life-threatening injuries for an hour and a half.

Furthermore, he is charged with participating in the forced expulsion and violent displacement of Kamenica citizens, alongside other members of the Serbian police, while dressed in Serbian police uniforms and carrying arms.

The Prosecutor’s Office announcement also alleges that Z.A. and his accomplices engaged in looting civilian properties and intentionally setting them on fire, causing damage to the belongings of Albanian residents. They were also involved in the mistreatment of Albanian civilians.

These grave crimes are believed to have taken place during the Kosovo conflict, and the indictment indicates that Z.A. acted in collaboration with other Serbian police officers.

The Kosovo conflict of 1998-1999 resulted in the tragic loss of over 13,000 civilian lives, and thousands more were reported missing, with the majority of them being Albanians.
