Elevators in Albania are not safe to use. It is known that there are over 10,000 elevators, but 18% of them are registered and approved.

Only 1804 elevators are registered with this institution, while about 82% of the elevators in the country remain outside the control radars.

Tirana is the city that has recorded the highest number of incidents related to problems with elevators.

So far, ‘ISHMT’ has learned that from 2019 to the end of 2022, 1344 planned inspections have been carried out. Of these, 467 administrative measures have been imposed, ranging from fines to banning the use of the elevator.

The main causes of breakdowns in elevators are because there are used and lack of controls.

Building administrators and builders are responsible for their maintenance and registration.
