Tirana’s project to build a new theater is moving forward with the demolition of the former Directorate of Prisons building, which will make way for the construction works.
The construction site, which primarily operates during nighttime hours, now features a newly constructed ramp to facilitate the smooth passage of heavy-duty vehicles. According to Tirana’s Mayor Erion Veliaj, this decision not only ensures the safety of pedestrians but also preserves the charm and accessibility of popular tourist destinations such as the Pedestrian Zone and the Fortress.
Veliaj expressed his satisfaction with the progress of the project during his inspection of the new theater works. He emphasized the importance of aligning the city’s development with its thriving tourism industry and vibrant nightlife. By relocating the construction site access to the Small Ring of Tirana, the city can continue to thrive while accommodating the ongoing construction activities, said Veliaj.
The mayor extended its gratitude to all departments, including the Police, for their commitment to making the project a success. The involvement of the National Inspectorate of Territory Protection, Municipal Police, Road Police, and the Fire Department has been pivotal in ensuring smooth operations throughout the night.
Mayor Veliaj highlighted that August will be a crucial month for intense construction efforts. With many citizens vacationing by the seaside, the authorities aim to expedite construction projects that involve significant road openings. These projects include not only the new theater but also the ambitious construction site at “Kinostudio” and ten new schools, all set to open during August. The city administration is determined to have the majority of the construction works completed before the vacationers return.
The new theater project, designed by the renowned international architecture studio “Bjarke Ingels Group”, promises a modern and architecturally impressive addition to the city’s landscape. The new facility is expected to provide a unique space for staging theatrical performances, meeting the city’s artistic and cultural demands.
