Montenegro’s President Jakov Milatović has designated Milojko Spajić, the leader of the “Europe Now” party, as the prospective Prime Minister to lead the formation of the new government.
This decision comes after two months since the country’s general elections.
Spajić now has a 90-day window to assemble a coalition and shape the incoming government.
Milatović expressed his expectations from Spajić, emphasizing responsibility and suitability for the role. He urged all political stakeholders involved in the government formation discussions to prioritize the nation’s unity.
“At this juncture, I firmly believe Montenegro needs a robust government that aligns with European values and avoids division,” Milatović stated.
During the June parliamentary elections, the “Europe Now” party emerged victorious, setting the stage for a significant shift in governance.
The composition of the forthcoming government is anticipated to shed light on the nation’s direction, with the aspiration of European Union membership consistently highlighted.
The June electoral process unfolded just a few months subsequent to Montenegro’s political leadership encountering a setback following the defeat of former President Milo Đukanović in the April presidential elections’ second round.
Since its inception in 2022, the “Europe Now” party has committed to advancing a pro-European agenda, pledging wage increases, and championing reform initiatives.
