Kosovo’s Prime Minister Albin Kurti urged for immediate commencement of construction work on a road linking Prizren and Tetovo during a statement on Friday.

Speaking at the inauguration of a renamed road in North Macedonia on August 11, Kurti emphasized the significance of the Prizren-Tetovo road for the progress of both Kosovo and North Macedonia.

The initiative to connect Prizren and Tetovo was established as a bilateral agreement between the two governments. This agreement, which was signed by Prime Minister Kurti and his Macedonian counterpart, Dimitar Kovačevski, was the result of joint discussions. Kurti stressed the importance of promptly moving from the feasibility study phase to actual construction to realize this substantial project.

In September 2021, Kosovo and North Macedonia’s governments entered into an agreement to construct a road linking Prizren in Kosovo’s south with Tetovo in the northwestern part of North Macedonia.

Kurti underlined the hope that the Government of North Macedonia would also be committed to this endeavor, noting the existence of a comprehensive feasibility study.

“While the costs are manageable according to our calculations, the return on investment is remarkable. This project not only shortens travel distance but also benefits both citizens and the economy,” Kurti stated during his visit to the Tetovo mountain village of Vice.

Prime Minister Kurti’s trip to Cair in Skopje included his participation in the renaming ceremony of a road named after Kosovar activist “Adem Demaçi” in the Municipality of Cair.

Though meetings with ruling political party representatives were not on his agenda during this visit to North Macedonia, Kurti was accompanied by opposition leaders. Among them were Izet Mexhiti, the head of the Democratic Movement, Bilall Kasami, the leader of Besa, and Afrim Gashi, representing the Alternative party.
