British magazine “Financial Times” has dedicated an article to the tourist boom in Albania. According to it, beautiful beaches and low prices have become the first choice for Italian vacationers.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni made a surprise visit to Albania this week, joining thousands of summer holidaymakers who have chosen the Balkan country because of Italy’s soaring prices and extreme weather.

Meloni chose a low-cost route, taking a ferry from the southern Italian region of Puglia, where she was on holiday with her family, to the Albanian port of Vlora.

One of Europe’s poorest countries, Albania has struggled for decades to shake off a reputation for corruption and organized crime that has driven hundreds of thousands of Albanians to emigrate.

The visit of the Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni to Albania was also commented by the Financial Times in the tourist context. The prestigious magazine writes that one of the poorest countries in Europe, Albania has struggled for decades to remove the reputation of corruption and organized crime. According to the British magazine, Albania is now enjoying an economic revival, due to the tourism boom.

“Attracted by its competitively priced Mediterranean beaches, airline passengers in Albania doubled in June. The opening of low-cost lines to Albanian airports contributed to this jump”, FT quotes, referring to European agencies.

Many vacationers in Albania are Italians, who spent the summer days with lower expenses than in their country. The Financial Times article goes on to describe Albania as the destination of the moment, with its Caribbean-like sandy beaches.
