The United Kingdom has recorded the highest number of asylum seekers in the last two decades, reaching a historic high.

The data is disclosed by the Ministry of the Interior and forwarded by the British newspaper Daily Mail, which writes that asylum applications have reached 78,768 until June 2023, or 19% more than a year ago.

The list is headed by Albanian immigrants with 11,790 applications, and nearly 7,500 of them have arrived in the United Kingdom by raft.

After Albanians are ranked Afghans, with 9,964 applications or almost double of the previous year.

According to the data, there was also a large increase in the number of worker visas issued last year, compared to the previous 12 months.

New statistics released by the Home Office also show a 63% increase in the number of people coming to the UK on work visas.
