The Government and the Bank must take measures to strengthen the euro against the lek. With this call, exporting businesses propose that the exchange rate be controlled by the authorities.
Manufacturing businesses and those that export goods continue to operate with difficulty in the market. The main reason is the devaluation of the euro and the dollar against the lek, which, despite the fluctuations of the last month, has again remained at the lowest rates of the last two years.
For this reason, they have again called on the government to take measures on the serious consequences that the companies they run are experiencing.
This time they have written an open letter, where they say that recently they are touching the limits of survival in the market, even reflecting an analysis of the situation they are in.
“We estimate that, together with exporters’ associations, an inter-institutional group should be created to identify and implement fiscal policies and structural reforms that do not harm macroeconomic stability, but that soften the heavy blows from the appreciation of the national currency,” the letter states.
Furthermore, business associations also propose measures that have been taken by other countries, where the central bank does not leave the exchange rate free. According to them, at this moment, the exchange rate with the euro should be half free, based on the high presence of the euro in the Albanian economy.
