President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, handed over the Kosovo Citizenship Decree to the writer Ismail Kadare this Tuesday.

Through a post on Facebook, she welcomed Kadare to the big family of Kosovo and also wished that his stories continue to conquer the world.

“Today, I handed over the Citizenship Decree of the Republic of Kosovo to our great writer Ismail Kadare, the honor of our nation.

Welcome Ismail Kadare to the big family of Kosovo! May your stories continue to conquer the world by reminding us of the power of literature to shape perspectives, challenge norms and promote dialogue!” – writes Kosovo President.

Ismail Kadare (January 28, 1936) is one of the greatest contemporary writers, academic, former deputy of the People’s Assembly (1970-1982) and vice-president of the Democratic Front.

As a writer, he stands out mainly for prose, but his contribution also extends to dramaturgy, poetry and translations.

He started writing when he was still young, first poetry, with which he became known, and then prose, becoming the main Albanian prose writer Booker International Prize in 2005, the Princess of Asturias Prize for the Arts in 2009 and the Jerusalem Prize in 2015. In recent years, he divides his time between France and Albania.

Until today, his works have been translated into about 45 different languages, thus being the main representative of Albanian literature around the world.
