Minister of Environment, Spatial Planning and Infrastructure in Kosovo, Liburn Aliu, said on Thursday that the production of plastic bags from 0 to 25 microns will be banned in Kosovo.

He has said that the thin plastic bags, which are currently used and can be bought in markets, will be completely banned.

“From zero to 25 microns, only bags used for fruit will be allowed, which will not have holders. As for bags from 25 to 50 microns, their use will be allowed, they will cost five cents, but they will not be allowed to have manufacturers’ logos or advertising logos.

In a press conference, Aliu said that no minimum price will be set for biodegradable and compostable bags of any size and thickness, with a corresponding certificate, which proves that the bags are made of biodegradable material.

“No minimum price or fee will be set for plastic bags with holders up to 50 microns”.

Kosovo is the only country in the Western Balkans in which single-use plastic bags are provided free of charge to consumers.
