The Chairman of the Democratic Party, Lulzim Basha, in his speech at the National Council meeting of the DP, emphasized that “to build the future, above all, we need to rebuild our party, closing a cycle of twisted intrigues, clashes, bickering, and misunderstandings”.

“In order for this to happen, I and the leadership forums must do everything to overcome the crisis, divisions, and confusion that have affected the membership, as well as a significant part of the opposition’s political elite. This has caused many individuals and political capacities, which are an asset to the DP, an asset to society, to not be active today. But we will be open, we will be inviting, we will be inclusive for those who join our political battle, for those who carry ideas, for those who enrich the opposition’s political action, and for those who expand our political representation,” Basha emphasized.

Today, continued Basha, we are shaping the statutory forums of the party.

“Everyone who becomes part of the expanded forums of the party should see this as an opportunity and at the same time as a test of engagement, as a test of the vision of how we should lead the political action of the DP. The forums remain rigid functions, but they will not be fruitful unless ideas, values, actions, and representation are absorbed. After the National Assembly last week, we are taking another important step for the Democratic Party today, the formation of the party’s statutory forums. This step gives a new impetus to our political action, which has long deviated from our primary duty, that of serving Democrats, citizens, Albania,” said Basha.

Basha expressed that “building leadership teams is an open and ongoing process that is not only established through the performance of the functions each of us performs but through the spirit of the team that prevails among us, where everyone’s legitimate ambitions are harmonized, but with the awareness that nothing extraordinary is achieved without advancing the common vision and the great mission entrusted to us by the Democrats.”

“We”, he added, “will extend our hand to professionals, intellectuals, entrepreneurs, educators, young people, and women, from all social strata and from the diaspora, to contribute alongside us to normalize politics, to make it as inclusive and humane as possible, by building a bridge of hope and faith from today to tomorrow”.

Basha emphasized that the priority of the DP is the well-being of Albanian families.

“Due to the breakdown in internal battles, we did not pay sufficient attention to the citizens. For Albanian children and their education. For reviving the collapsing healthcare system. To create conditions for citizens to have employment, better wages, and affordable living costs. So that Albanian families can have a dignified life, and young people do not fear building their families here,” said Basha.

Therefore, he added, it is up to us to prove that we have left the obsession with positions to others.

Furthermore, Basha stated that “we lost precious time dealing with the personal problems of a few politicians. Our duty is to serve the citizens, to serve Albania”.

“Democrats and all Albanians expect and deserve a completely different model, one that is attentive to people and not obsessed with personal fate, a sensitive and compassionate policy, a policy of and for the people, which listens to them and provides solutions to their problems. After the National Assembly, the recount has begun for all of us,” Basha emphasized.

He expressed that “the National Assembly of September 2 is a strong message to all. Clear about the responsibility they bear to lift the country out of the multidimensional crisis it is in, Democrats have not only looked toward the future but have started working to build it”.

According to him, it is the last time the DP does not have a candidate for elections.

“The evidence of the costs that events within us have produced is the Kukës elections. We respected the will of the Kukës Branch not to nominate a candidate because it is our responsibility, all of us together, that for a long time we were engaged in fighting each other and not in the revival and reorganization of the party. Today, we conclude the completion of the structure, and everyone, without exception, including myself, must be in the field to revive the party and be ready everywhere and anytime for electoral confrontations,” said Basha.
