Erenik Beqiri’s journey to the 80th anniversary of the Venice Film Festival has marked history in Albanian cinematography.
The short film managed to win the “Golden Lion” in the “Horizon” category, leaving behind 11 other productions.
Director Erenik Beqiri himself has stated that the film “A short journey” closely reveals the trials of an Albanian couple in the background of the silent exodus of Albania. The narrative, delivered with sacrificial love and separation, is a personal observation of the desire of a generation that is willing to trade the best years of life for an unpredictable future.
Shot in France with a cast of actors such as Luana Bajrami, Tristan Halilaj, Arben Bajraktari and Walid Akfir, the making of the film lasted 3 years.
This is Beqiri’s second film to be successful on the international stage, after his film “The Van”, which was shown in Cannes.
The Venice Film Festival is one of the oldest and most prestigious film festivals in the world, and the highly coveted Golden Lion is a testament to quality.
