Foreign Minister Igli Hasani departs for New York after assuming office

The newly appointed Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Igli Hasani, has departed for New York, where he will participate in high-level meetings as part of Albania’s Presidency of the United Nations Security Council and the High-Level Week of the 78th Session of the United Nations General Assembly.

On Thursday, September 14, Minister Hasani will lead the High-Level Open Debate on Promoting Public-Private Partnerships in Addressing Humanitarian Issues, an initiative of Albania.

On September 20, the Albanian diplomat will participate in the High-Level Meeting of the Security Council on Ukraine, chaired by Prime Minister Edi Rama.

During his stay in New York, the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs will meet with counterparts from Security Council member states and participate in meetings focused on the Western Balkans, peace, and security, among other topics.

The Albanian delegation at the United Nations is led by the President of the Republic, Bajram Begaj, and includes Prime Minister Edi Rama and Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Igli Hasani.

Albania, for the first time in its history as a UN member, has held the position of a non-permanent member of the Security Council since January 2022, with a two-year term that concludes in December of this year.
