One of the oldest schools in the country, has been out of order for several years. It is about the “Bajo Topulli” primary school in Gjirokastër, which was built about 100 years ago. Today, apart from closing its doors to students, it has also degraded as a building. This is due to the fact that in this school the demand for registration was very low and did not meet the criteria for regular operation.

Residents of the “Dunavat” neighborhood, where the school is located, appeal for the centuries-old building to be repaired and put into operation.

5 years ago the primary school ‘Bajo Topulli’ has been working for the first to the 4th grades with a number of students of 150. But the massive departure of the population from Gjirokastër to other cities, emigration and the decrease in the number of births seem to be the factors that have influenced the closings of this school. Since this area is frequented by tourists, the revival of the building would be an added value for the historical area of ​​Gjirokastër.
