Albania has chosen the documentary film “Alexander” as its official submission for the 96th edition of the Academy Awards, commonly known as the Oscars.
The National Center of Cinematography made the announcement, revealing that a commission of five members had selected this documentary directed by Ardit Sadiku to represent Albania in the “International Feature Film” category.
The selection process was overseen by Zerina Bruci, the Supervisor of the National Center of Cinematography, and carried out by the commission established under Order No. 332, dated August 23, 2023. The commission includes Arben Lami as the chairman, along with four other members: Gerta Qurku, Eno Milkani, Genc Përmeti, and Florenc Papas.
The documentary, titled “Alexander”, delves into a remarkable and highly representative story of Albanians’ extraordinary sacrifices for freedom.
It tells the tale of Aleksandër Gruda, a naval fleet mechanic who, in 1990, seized a warship and escaped from Albania. However, his pursuit of freedom came at a considerable cost.
The prestigious Academy Awards will be presented by The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences during the annual ceremony scheduled for March 10, 2024.
