High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, said on Friday that the EU is ready to consider “punitive measures” against Serbia if it does not meet the union’s demands.
Borrell’s statements came after the terrorist attack on the Kosovo Police in the north of the country, writes KosovaPress.
“Measures have been taken regarding Kosovo. These are political and financial measures, among which is the suspension of high-level visits and events, with the exception of the EU-led dialogue. Those measures also have an impact on the financial support for Kosovo. The suspension is temporary and reversible and will be lifted once de-escalation occurs. At the same time, we are closely monitoring whether Serbia meets the EU’s requirements and in case of non-compliance, the EU is ready to take measures into account,” Borrell said in a written response to questions from Serbian media.
Borrell’s letter did not mention the clashes that took place between an armed Serb group and Kosovo police on Sunday.
