Serbia has begun withdrawing military troops along the border with Kosovo, said on Tuesday, the White House Homeland Security spokesman, John Kirby.

“When we publicly stated that we had seen Serbian forces along the border, we have seen them begin to withdraw those forces from there,” Kirby said, according to VOA.

He added that “this is something positive that will help to expand the situation, although it will not eliminate them”.

Days after armed Serb groups attacked Kosovo police in the village of Zveçan municipality, Banjska on September 24, killing Sergeant Afrim Bunjaku, the United States raised concerns about a large military buildup from Serbia along the border with Kosovo.

Washington and the European Union called on Serbia last week to withdraw its troops from the border with Kosovo.
