German Foreign Minister, Annalena Bearbock, had a clear message in the joint conference with the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Igli Hasani, and Commissioner Oliver Varhelyin.
She stressed that Serbia must live in peace with its neighbors or the road to the EU will be blocked.
“The EU is a union of peace, so the issue of security with neighbors is one of the most important issues for each of the countries of this region. It would be in the absolute interest of each of these countries to live in peace with their neighbors, otherwise the road to the EU would be blocked and obstructed. And we talked intensively about this point. Serbia should live in peace with its neighbors or the road to the EU will be blocked,” she said
She added that the addition of NATO troops in Kosovo is a signal that the West remains vigilant and seeks long-term stability.
“We must avoid old sparks of fire and foci of conflict once and for all. The provocations of the Serbian side through the increase of military troops on the border with Kosovo have heated up the situation even further. We talked about this during this meeting. This comes after an insidious attack on the Kosovo police by a terrorist gang armed to the teeth. We expect Serbia to advance the investigative processes of the events of September 24 and to contribute to the clarification of the circumstances, as well as for the events of May regarding the violence against KFOR.
Through the increase of NATO troops, we give a very clear message that we remain vigilant and contribute in the long term to stability and we care about the future of the region. But the key to the solution is in Belgrade and Pristina”, she said.
