Ambassador of the United States of America to Serbia, Christopher Hill, declared on October 12 that Serbia and Kosovo will eventually have to reach a political solution for whoever is confirmed to be responsible for the events in Banjska, in the north of Kosovo.

“Now we have a problem that needs to be solved. Whoever is responsible for it, we’re going to have to have a political solution, we’re going to have to sit down and figure out what’s right,” Hill said, speaking at the Belgrade Security Conference (BSC).

He said that this solution means “a kind of status” for the Serbs in Kosovo, and on the other hand, “greater internationalization” for Kosovo.

Hill said that he “would want Serbia to understand and recognize that Kosovo is an independent state”, but the problem is “more complex than that”.

“We need to encourage both sides to listen to each other,” Hill said.

Hill also added that the first step in solving the current crisis is to understand what happened.

“First, we need to understand what happened, and hold those responsible accountable, then make sure something like this doesn’t happen again,” Hill said.
