The war in Ukraine has caused Brussels to pay more attention to the states of the Western Balkans in order to accelerate their integration into the European Union.
This is what the EU ambassador in Albania, Luigi Soreca, stated, three days before the leaders of the EU and Western Balkan countries meet in Tirana within the framework of the Berlin Process.
“The Balkans are part of the EU, and geopolitical changes with the way Russia views Ukraine have focused all attention on Brussels. The attention has never been greater than now for the enlargement of the EU. In this context, the Berlin process plays an important role so that the region can work more on reforms, integration projects, we expect the summit on Monday to achieve the most practical result in several areas, transport, digital agenda, energy and the common market”, declared Luigi Soreca, ambassador of the European Union in Albania.
Foreign Minister Igli Hasani was also present at the conference where the “Role of Parliament in the Berlin Process” was discussed, who stated that he expects concrete results from Monday’s summit.
“We must leave political narratives behind. Two years ago, a free romaning zone was created, and since October 1, we had a reduction in tariffs. Next week, the results of the October 16 summit will be added. The first time they are held in the region, it will come out with concrete results. They definitely need the involvement of parliaments. The Assembly of Albania has a very good expertise. They will give concrete results and improve the achievements of the Berlin process”, said Hasani.
Speaker of the Parliament, Lindita Nikolla, and EU Ambassador, Luigi Soreca, underlined the importance of increasing the role of the Assembly in the implementation of joint regional projects within the integration process.
