Prime Minister Edi Rama, together with the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, is holding a press conference, one day before the Berlin Process Summit is held in Tirana.

In his speech, Rama emphasized that the aim of this summit is not to discuss the war between Israel and Hamas, as well as the attack in the north of Kosovo, but there will be a space to discuss issues of neighborhood in the region.

“Tirana Summit is in the wake of the Berlin Process and it is the vision of Chancellor Angela Merkel who brought together the leaders of the Western Balkans to gather together and sit at a table to start a cooperation for the future and where cooperation is defined within framework of the EU’s 4 freedoms that give countries the opportunity to give more.

All efforts have gone and are going in this direction. The EU has taken a role under the leadership of the commission to bring a concrete contribution that is very important. This is the biggest innovation that allows countries on the one hand to access an extra EU fund and have new spaces in the EU common market. We have also defined a space to discuss neighborhood issues in the region, but nothing more, because this is not the goal. It is true that Tirana is the European capital of the Balkans, but it is not the navel of Europe. The navel of Europe is in Brussels, where these topics are discussed,” he said.
