The aggravated war situation in Israel has caused the cancellation of tourist bookings from this country to visit Gjirokastra. Throughout 2023 and mainly in the summer months, the number of Israeli tourists who visited the city of Gjirokastra and its surroundings has increased.
“During the summer season we had the arrival of Israelis in Albania, and now in the autumn period they had reservations, they had to come here and they canceled them because of their condition”, said Elektra Liti, tourist guide.
The interest of tourists from Israel in Gjirokastra was great until the day when the war broke out in the Jewish state.
“Most of them preferred to visit the characteristic houses as well as the castle, which is the main reason why they came here. I think they were elderly, but there were also young Israel’s tourists”, she says.
Even in these autumn days, Gjirokastra continues to welcome local and foreign tourists, while the number of visitors for 2023 is over 400,000 visitors.
