The EU emissary for the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, Miroslav Lajčák, spoke with the Prime Minister of the country, Albin Kurti, after the meeting that five diplomats held this Saturday.
Lajčák said that he and Kurti talked about the advancement of the normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia and progress in the implementation of past agreements.
“We have carefully listened to Kurti’s positions and his concerns regarding the security situation in the north of Kosovo and I want to say that the attack on the Kosovo Police by the armed individuals is a clear agracation.
We expressed our condolences to Prime Minister Kurti and strongly condemned the September 24 attack. We made it clear that all attackers must be brought to justice and we expect Serbia’s full cooperation and concrete commitment in this regard. The events of September 24 made it clear that de-escalation and normalization are more urgent than ever. Any kind of conditionality or delay is unacceptable and we expect Kosovo and Serbia to fulfill their dialogue obligations”, said Lajčák.
Furthermore, the EU special emissary said that the events of September 24 cannot change the fact that Kosovo and Serbia have concluded an agreement for the normalization of relations, as he emphasized the need to move towards the establishment of the Association of Municipalities with a Serbian Majority.
“Kurti has the responsibility to advance such relations and if Kosovo will make progress towards the EU we want to emphasize the need to move towards the establishment of the Association of Municipalities with a Serbian Majority without delay. Without this, there can be no progress on Kosovo’s European path. We appreciate Kurti’s willingness to continue our discussions and we will now continue with our mission in Belgrade”.
