The damage to the characteristic road that leads to the Gjirokastra castle is causing difficulties for the movement of vehicles and pedestrians, including tourist groups.
This is one of the alternative roads that connects the upper districts of the city with the lower part, making intervention necessary for its rehabilitation. Since the Gjirokastra castle is the most visited monument in the country, this appeal also comes from tourists, who continue to visit it with interest in these autumn days.
“Not only needs to be fixed, but awareness is also needed from all the authorities because it is the most frequented road that has access to the castle and not only. Sensitization of all authorities, the community, various associations as soon as possible, to maintain our cultural values and heritage above all,” said the tourist guide, Artan Koçi.
“It is a characteristic road that leads to the castle and I think that although the temperatures are low, there should be an intervention for the construction of a new road, but it should have the same values as this one,” said a tourist.
“These are high-risk areas because vehicles and citizens pass here, there are houses and institutions below them,” declared the director of Civil Emergencies, Ilir Çumaku.
Currently, the circulation of heavy vehicles is suspended in this segment, while according to Gjirokastra’s Municipality, intervention will be made for the complete rehabilitation of the road and the avoidance of the problem of erosion in this area of Gjirokastra.
