Deputy PM from Rome: Cooperation and concrete projects in energy sector

Deputy the Prime Minister, Belinda Balluku was in Rome, following the Meeting of the Joint Economic Committee, Albania-Italy. At the meeting organized today, the focus was on energy, where representatives of the sector from both countries took part.

The drafting of a common agenda for the steps to be taken until 2030 regarding decarbonization, but also investments regarding renewable energy, were part of the discussions held. The parties also discussed the concrete project regarding the construction of the interconnection line directly connecting Albania with Italy, an important project which will also contribute to the energy security of the region.

During the discussions, the steps taken by Albania in the energy sector were evaluated, especially regarding the liberalization of the market, but also the rise of the energy exchange, while the parties expressed their willingness to further intensify bilateral cooperation.

Next spring, in Tirana, the next energy roundtable will be held, where it is expected to be finalized with the signing of several important agreements for both countries.

During the visit to Rome, the Minister of Infrastructure and Energy also held a meeting with Giuseppina di Foggia, head of the Italian Transmission System Operator, TERNA, where the parties expressed the common opinion that the teams of both countries should start joint work on the design of the technical and economic feasibility project regarding the Albania-Italy interconnection line.
