After more than two decades, the symphonic vocal concert “Stabat Mater” is returning to the Tirana National Opera and Ballet Theatre (TKOB).

This powerful composition will be masterfully performed today and tomorrow at 8:00 PM by the TKOB Orchestra, Choir, and Soloists, under the baton of Maestro Adriano Martinolli D’Arcy and Dritan Lumshi.

The arias in this piece will be beautifully rendered by soprano Renisa Laçka, mezzo-soprano Vikena Kamenica, tenor Matias Xheli, and bass Nicola Ciancio, in collaboration with the Umberto Giordano Conservatory in Foggia, Italy.

“Stabat Mater” is a creation by Gioachino Rossini, built upon the traditional structure of the Stabat Mater sequence, featuring a choir and soloists. Rossini composed this work towards the end of his career after retiring from writing operas. He embarked on the journey of creating Stabat Mater in 1831 and completed it after a decade.

“Stabat Mater Dolorosa – The sorrowful Mother stands beneath the Cross”, are the poignant opening words of the hymn, where the Virgin Mary mourns the crucifixion of her son, Jesus. For Christians and numerous renowned composers, this composition transcends mere words, inviting all aficionados of art to partake in the grief of this mother. It serves as a path to grace and a crucial aspect of a believer’s spiritual journey.
