1 in 4 people worldwide feel quite or very lonely. The latest survey conducted by Gallup in 142 countries, including Albania, revealed that 24% of people aged 15 and over feel very lonely.
“The lonely person experiences some disorders of the nature of boredom, sadness, depression. There are many cases where loneliness leads to a final acceleration of life”, said psychologist Entela Binjaku.
The survey also found that rates of loneliness were highest among youth, with 27% of 19- to 29-year-olds reporting feeling very or quite lonely.
“I think that this increase in loneliness has come as a result of insecurity in the workplace, the inability to maintain or establish good and stable relationships in the workplace, of course the impulsivity of age makes you more fluid and youth have a more difficult social relationships to maintain”, said psychologist Entela Binjaku.
Although many calls to reduce loneliness are focused on older people it has been found that most of those aged 45 and over do not feel lonely at all.
