About 1,700 mammograms within the framework of pink October, the month dedicated to breast cancer awareness, turn out to be suspicious of having cancer. In an interview for Euronews Albania, the director of the Public Health Institute (ISHP), Eugena Tomini, states that the number of women who have performed this examination in every corner of Albania has been very high.
“Pink October has had an extraordinary flow in the total of mammograms that we have gone to 11750 mammograms nationally, including mobile mammograms in 900 or 1000 mammograms,” said Eugena Tomini, director of ISHP.
One of the most important elements of screening programs is the detection of breast cancer in its early stages, and to achieve this, only one month is not enough, so the examinations will continue every day.
“Mobile mammograms are a function of bandages that are recommended to be performed throughout the year. Mammograms have had a calendar based on the program and outline until the end of the year according to this movement plan.
In the last 5 years, breast cancer cases are almost unchanged. On average, 720 women affected by this disease are discovered in a year.
