Albanians celebrate today the 29th of November, the 79th anniversary of the Liberation of the country from Nazi-fascist occupiers.

Prime Minister Edi Rama has extended wishes to everyone for the grand celebration of Liberation.

In remembrance of this day, state leaders will pay tribute at the National Martyrs Cemetery in honor of the heroes of the National Liberation War.

Additionally, various other activities will take place, including a festive concert tonight in Skanderbeg Square, also known as the White Night.

On this date, political views diverge. The leftists commemorate the 28th of November as Independence Day and the 29th of November as Liberation Day, while the rightists remember both festivities on the 28th of November.

Since April 7, 1939, Albania had been under the shackles of fascist occupation. After the capitulation of Italy in the autumn of 1943, the country was occupied by German forces. In November 1944, following the liberation of Tirana, a significant part of the cities in the north were also liberated. The liberation of Shkodra marked the day of Albania’s liberation from German occupation.
