Today in Special Appeal Court for Corruption and Organized Crime (GJKKO), a court session was held for the elected mayor of Himara, who is in custody on the charge of vote buying.

According to sources for Euronews Albania, it is known that the court hearing against Beleri was accompanied by strong debates between the parties.

Beleri claimed that the Constitution was violated and it is not possible for a loser to continue leading an institution that is directly elected by the people.

Beleri stressed that this injustice must end as soon as possible and he must be given special permission to take the oath.

“Political discrimination. There are political decisions and positions of the prime minister before each session. It does not happen in any country in the world that a loser continues to rule. Injustice that must end, something that is not prevented by law, is allowed. It is a constitutional principle”, declared Beleri.

Special Prosecutor (SPAK) was also against the special permit, where the prosecutors identified cases where prisoners can receive permits.

“There is no special provision for special permits except: Serious illness that is proven by a medical report from family members, marriage, death or examination,” said the accusation.

In the session where the granting or not of the permit was considered, representatives from the General Directorate of Prisons were also present, who were also against it.

After listening to both sides, the court decided to adjourn the hearing to December 11.
