Serbia wants to be part of the European Union, but also not to lose Kosovo. This is the position of the government of the Prime Minister, Ana Brnabić. In an interview with the Serbian media, Brnabić says that integration into the EU does not mean that the Serbian people do not have the right to live in the territory of the state, Kosovo.
“The program of our government is clear,” said the Serbian prime minister, “we will defend Kosovo as part of Serbia and continue the path towards the European Union.”
Prime Minister Brnabić’s stance comes as a response to a part of Serbian politics, which declares that it cannot enter the European Union if the Kosovo issue is not resolved.
Due to the electoral campaign, the Serbian parties in the government have increased the rhetoric against Kosovo. Aleksandar Vučić’s Progressive Party claims to have succeeded in its policy by canceling a series of recognitions of Kosovo’s independence.
