The Albanian National Historical Museum commemorated the 76th anniversary of the passing of Asdreni.
On December 11, 1947, Aleksandër Stavre Drenova passed away in Bucharest.
The artistic name Asdreni was used by him to sign poems that were published in well-known newspapers such as “Kalendari Kombëtar” (National Calendar), “Albania”, and “Drita” (Light).
Asdreni was born on April 11, 1872, in Drenovë, Korça. He began his secondary education at the city gymnasium.
Left orphaned, he emigrated to Romania in 1885, where he attended the Bucharest Commercial Academy and later enrolled in the Faculty of Political Sciences at the local university, which he did not manage to complete.
Asdreni was a distinguished activist of the Albanian diaspora in Romania and its secretary for the period between 1913-1925.
In the period 1922-1934, with some interruptions, he served as the secretary of the Albanian Consulate in Bucharest.
Asdreni participated in the Bucharest meeting on November 5, 1912, where the decision to declare Albania’s independence was made.
The poem “Betimi mbi Flamur” (Oath on the Flag) and other patriotic works played a significant role in strengthening national consciousness on the eve and after the Declaration of Independence, and during the period of consolidating the Albanian state.
He is remembered as the author of the national anthem, “Himni i Flamurit” (Hymn to the Flag).
