The Greek media have also warned a bloc of Greece this Wednesday about the process of Albania’s negotiations for membership in the European Union.
Protothema newspaper writes that the Beleri issue will now be a non-negotiable condition for official Athens on Albania’s path to join the EU.
“Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama chose the wrong “opponent” to make a show of strength and disagreement with the ‘false Beleri’ case, after Athens in every way sent the message to Brussels that for as long as Mr. Beleri is not recognized as the elected Mayor of Himare, the door of the European Union for Albania will remain closed”, the largest Greek newspaper opens its article, where it further emphasizes that Prime Minister Rama has dismissed any possibility that Greece would not use the right of veto.
“Athens, in a gesture of goodwill, agreed to send the letter to give the Albanian government the opportunity to take a step forward and end the impasse. Athens asked for nothing more than to give permission to Fredi Beleri so that he could take the oath, even though he was a prisoner, and thus know the result of the elections in Himare. An opportunity that Mr. Rama did not take advantage of”, writes the Greek newspaper “Protothema”.
According to what is said in the article of this newspaper, the Greek government will ask to go to the end of this issue and will not accept to advance with the negotiations if Fredi Beleri does not take the oath as mayor of Himare.
