On December 15, 1999, Albanians in Italy were recognized as an ethnic linguistic minority.

The legal recognition of the population of Albanian origin residing in Southern Italy is based on framework law no. 482.

The status of a linguistic minority enables the teaching of the Albanian language in primary and secondary schools, alongside its official use in state administration, libraries, public services, etc.

The Albanian population migrated to Italy during the Ottoman occupation. Despite assimilative repression, the Arbëresh people preserved their tradition, culture, and symbols.

The General Directorate of Archives presents photos from the visit of a group of Arbëresh people from Italy during their visit to Albania.

It also presents a memorandum addressed to the head of the Albanian delegation at the Peace Conference in Paris by the Arbëresh people of Palermo, expressing sorrow for the violation of Albania’s rights.
