Petros Markaris is one of Greece’s most successful authors, whose international fame came through his series of crime novels featuring the eccentric Athenian detective Kostas Haritos.
During the promotion of his book “The Suicide Movement” near the Academy of Sciences, the author spoke about the objective of his book.
“What I aim for when I write a novel is to challenge the reader, so that the reader asks himself, why? to arouse curiosity for the next novel and at the same time make a historical parallel with his life experience, compared to the experience described in the book”, said the writer.
Its main character, detective Kostas Haritos, is one of the most popular in the detective novel genre in Europe.
Albanian fans of police novels, who have not yet met the inspector in love with the dictionary, are ready to pronounce an Athenian delicacy “The Suicide Movement” by Kristo Pulla.
In an interview for Euronews, the author expresses his happiness for the Albanianization of his novel, and also for his first visit to Albania.
“Initially, I am very happy that my book was the reason for me to come to Albania, and my joy is even greater that with my visit I was present in the promotion of my book in the Albanian language”, said Markaris.
“The Suicide Movement” is a book that has many fascinating details and touches, with events that take place in Athens and its surroundings, but in his books the author has not forgotten Istanbul, the place where he was born and raised.
“Each detective novel writer selects a certain city for the events he describes in his work, and the cities themselves can be considered main characters. Except for one book of mine whose events take place in Istanbul because I was born and raised there, all the other books take place in Athens,” he said.
His detective novels are excellent literary images of the cultural, humorous, but also critical reality of modern Greek society.
Markaris is a versatile author, and everyone finds themselves somehow in the crazy mysteries and crime plots written by him.
