Remittances from emigrants to Albania in the July-September period reached the value of 233 million euros, which is the highest figure sent in a 3-month season since 2008 when the first reports of the Bank of Albania were issued.
Meanwhile, within the first 9 months of 2023, emigrants have brought in 677 million euros, 58 million euros more than the same period last year.
The value of remittances could be higher, as there are emigrants who choose to bring money for their families in cash rather than through formal channels.
Eurostat also reports such a trend, speaking of the highest level of annual remittances over the past decade.
The local economy depends on these aids, which cover the living costs of more than 40 thousand families and thousands of pensioners.
Germany and England are the countries from which the majority of the money is transferred, unlike some years ago when Greece and Italy dominated.
