Albania’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Belinda Balluku, announced today that applications for the second package of 2,000 solar panels for water heating will reopen soon, with 70% of the cost being subsidized by the Government.

Balluku stated that the first call, which started in November of the previous year, has been successful.

According to Balluku, out of over 4,000 applications, 2,000 were qualified, and so far, 1,987 units have been installed.

“People are witnesses and part of success. Solar panels for water heating, subsidized by the Government at a rate of 70%, clearly showed effects on reducing the bill. The voice of citizens demonstrates this best. Applications for the second package, 2,000 panels, will reopen soon,” said Balluku.

The Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy was the first public building included in the energy efficiency program.

“A good job was done for its insulation and the installation of solar panels for self-production of energy used throughout the day. Following our example, this program continued in schools, hospitals, and dormitories. This program is considered quite successful. But energy efficiency should not only be used by the state. Undoubtedly, it is a key to success for all of us.

In accordance with the National Energy Strategy and the National Energy and Climate Plan, the Government decided to implement an incentive scheme to reduce electricity consumption for residential subscribers,” stated Balluku.

The scheme to encourage the use of solar panels for water heating by residential consumers offers a subsidy of up to 70% of the cost by the Energy Efficiency Agency. This measure aims to reduce electricity consumption, improve hot water supply, and reduce CO2 emissions.

In addition, the Government decided to keep the electricity price unchanged for residential consumers and family businesses.
