300 million euros will cost the Italian state to house refugees from the Middle East in Albania, specifically in Shengjin and in the village of Gjadër in Lezha.

The technical details have been clarified by the Italian newspaper “L’esspreso” about the operation of the camp and the costs to cover every possible service, from drinking water, electricity, sewage to the infrastructure and the perimeter of the camp.

According to the document, the entire area where the refugee camp will be set up is not equipped with public sewage and it is necessary to build a reservoir with an adequate capacity or build a plant for their cleaning.

Drinking water is planned to be obtained from a pump storage, but if it is not enough to cover the entire center, the construction of reservoirs is also considered to ensure the necessary amount of water in the camp.

The protocol signed by Italy and Albania has a value of 230 million euros, while another 75 million is expected to be paid for the export and connection of the Italian judicial system with Albania, exceeding the value of 300 million euros.

This figure, according to the newspaper “L’esspreso” is at least 5 times higher than the costs that Italy has paid for the administration of the flow of migrants in its own territory.

For the treatment of migrants in the permanent centers in Italy, 52 million euros were paid for four years, while the transformation of Shëngjin and especially Gjadër will cost the neighboring country several times more.
