The US Senate has not approved the appointment of David Kostelancik as the ambassador of the United States of America to Albania.
VOA journalist Keida Kostreci, in a link to Euronews Albania, emphasized that the vote for Kostelancik was not made because of politics.
She also showed the procedures that are followed for the approval of an ambassador in another country.
“It is a matter of procedures and rules of the senate. The appointment of the diplomat David Kostelancik was returned to the White House, after the senate during the session that closed at the end of last year did not put on the agenda within the deadlines the confirmation vote for him and for dozens of other appointees, the appointments of the diplomats are blocked by some Republican senators. Kostelancik’s candidacy was returned to the White House under certain Senate rules under which nominations that are neither confirmed nor rejected by the Senate by the time the legislative session closes are returned to the president.
In this case, we must remember that the closed session was the winter session. In January, the new session begins. If an appointment is returned to the president, it cannot be reviewed by the senate. The President may present a new nomination for the same candidate or for a new candidate. It is not yet known how and where the White House will act regarding these appointments. The president can resend the same names or he can replace them. It should be noted that the vote was not conducted for Kostelancik for political reasons,” said Keida Kostreci for Euronews Albania.
