High numbers of people affected by the seasonal flu continue to be recorded in Gjirokastra. There are about 150 people per day who present themselves to the family doctor as well as to the emergency department of the regional hospital “Omer Nishani” with seasonal viruses, while there are also those infected with Covod-19.

“Many patients continue to show up in the emergency room who have flu problems, they are of the most different types, they are on different days of the flu, and we have provided medication and first aid, as well as prescriptions for home treatment” , says Bledar Çela, emergency doctor.

Doctors ask patients to be careful as it has been seen that the flu lasts longer than usual this year.

“The flu doesn’t go away in one day, in two days, there are even symptoms that can last 20-30 days, this flu has a cough that usually lasts and a sore throat, but in any case, it must be followed dynamically if the days pass 1 week, 10 days and continue with fever, with a strong cough, with chest pain, it should be looked at more seriously and should be visited by a doctor to prevent it from developing into bronchopneumonia or something else that could be more serious”, says the doctor.

At the beginning of the winter season, 6,500 people, mostly elderly people, received the flu vaccine near the health facilities in Gjirokastra, which has had an impact on the reduction of morbidity. However, doctors appeal to the strict observance of preventive measures for the seasonal flu.

So far, the seasonal virus has not caused serious health complications, but doctors appeal for increased care, especially in children and the elderly.
