Former politically persecuted and their heirs received 1.13 billion ALL last year.
The data show that the fund that the government had made available has been fully executed.
In 2023, the former persecuted received 1.13 billion ALL. The data from the treasury show that the payments for them were executed above the annual rate of 1 billion lek, which was made available from the state budget.
The compensation of the politically persecuted is part of a legal process that started in 2007 and continues today, according to a formula that favors payments to ex-convicts directly from the communist regime and then the heirs.
The process for the primary category is nearing completion, with the 22nd installment, while their successors are awaiting the third installment. It is accompanied by delays, as some people live abroad and do not submit the documents to withdraw the money.
This year’s budget calculates a fund of 1.2 billion ALL for their compensation, while the process is administered by the Ministry of Finance.
