Albania has stopped imports of pigs and chickens from several European countries, due to the “African Plague”.

Imports of pigs and chickens from Slovakia, Italy, Hungary, Latvia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Denmark, the Netherlands and Belgium have been banned.

It is learned that this decision was taken after cases of infections of these animals with the “African Plague” disease were discovered in these countries.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has not determined how long this measure will last, i.e. if it will be permanent, or until a second decision.

“African Plague” is a contagious viral disease that causes hemorrhagic fever in domestic and wild pigs, but there is still no evidence that the disease can be transmitted to humans.
