Every day spent ill for Albanian patients costs, sometimes even more than they can afford. It is the citizens who claim on the microphone of Euronews Albania that they are forced to buy medicines with money.
Medicines on the reimbursement list are free for pensioners and categories in need, but in many cases this list does not cover the whole range of diseases that an elderly person needs, putting them in front of monthly bills for the medicines they need.
However, the payments do not stop only at the purchase of medicines, the visits are also often expensive, as they are done in private.
Underpayments to doctors seem to be a phenomenon that will never disappear in Albania.
If we collect all the payments made from the visit, analysis or purchase of medications, we will see that it costs Albanians very dearly every day they spend sick. The last report of the World Health Organization highlighted that Albania is the first in Europe for out-of-pocket expenses for health, where they pay 60% themselves and the rest is paid from the state budget.
