In Albania, projects with the status of “strategic investment” can be applied until the end of 2027.

The new deadline has been set by the government, with the argument that the market needs resorts and enterprises worth over 50 million euros.

The government will extend the term of the law on strategic investments by another four years.

The law ended its effects at the end of 2023, but according to the proposals presented to the Economy Commission, entities interested in such investments will have the opportunity to submit their requests until the end of 2027.

For the left-wing MPs, the argument is related to the dynamics of the country’s development in the tourism sector and foreign investment flows.

Through the proposed legal changes, the government intends to increase the value of the investments, going from 30 million euros to 50 million euros for the usual procedure and if we must have a special procedure, it should have a value of over 100 million euros.

Since the entry into force of the law and until now, 88 investment projects have been handled, of which 40 have benefited from strategic status, 14 projects have been rejected and 34 others are in the evaluation phase.

The law on strategic investments has been criticized by the opposition, which says that through it, the government has favored its own clients.
