Last year, Euronews Albania broadcasted the problem of thousands of Pogradec pensioners who suffered from the lack of a day care center, which forced them to stay outside in the winter to play dominoes or spend time with each other.

The municipality of Pogradec at that time pledged to build a center, which has recently been implemented.

The warm environment will allow pensioners to spend the hours of the day there, drinking coffee, reading newspapers or even watching TV.

“We, as a municipality, must be close to the pensioners for everything, especially to help them get medicine or other services. In addition to this center, we will continue the construction of the center in the city park, whose works have stopped due to the weather.  Both of these premises are for you and we must use them as best as possible”, said Ilir Xhakolli, mayor of Pogradec Municipality.

The pensioners present at this inauguration show the importance that this investment has for them.

“We thank you for this missing “institution” that the city needed. We intend to hold meetings or activities here that will aim at the development of the city”, says an elderly person.

The day care center in Pogradec, in addition to the service, will also provide various entertainment activities for pensioners and also health care.
