The toughening of punishments for sexual crimes and the banning of social networks are two of the legal initiatives under discussion, but experts say that in addition to toughening the laws, the family also plays a decisive role.

1 in 10 children in Albania have fallen prey to sexual violence. The reported data is fictitious as the stigma of reporting is still high. In recent days, the authorities have discussed not allowing the exposure of children up to 16 years old on social networks. But how effective will this initiative be?

The published reports are apparently only the tip of the iceberg.

Parent-child communication and the sex education factor in schools seem to be decisive in avoiding or minimizing these attacks.

Social networks do not have an age protection mechanism as it is very easy to manipulate it when opening accounts or even through fake addresses, making it possible for online sexual predators to have an easier attack.
