The ARRSH (Albanian Road Authority) has started the official procedures for the construction of the Elbasan Bypass, which will ease heavy traffic in one of the most important corridors of international movement.
Due to the lack of a Bypass, Elbasan has long suffered heavy traffic at its entrances and exits. To avoid this burden, ARRSH has started the official procedures for the construction of the Elbasan Bypass. The green light has already been given to the investment, which will ease heavy traffic in one of the most important corridors of international movement.
“The road axis from the entrance of Elbasan to its exit, i.e. from east to west, has recently faced an increase in the movement of vehicles. Which is because of weekends and holidays. In our opinion, this flow has come because this is a very important international axis that connects the two main customs points of Kapshtica and Qaf Thana, with the rest of Albania, the capital and the port of Durrës. Something that brings an increase in vehicle movements and load on this main axis”, said Perlat Hamitaj / Traffic Specialist, Elbasan Road Police.
Since a flow of more than 10,000 vehicles has to pass through the city of Elbasan every day, ARRSH decided to avoid the city and build a road with standards that can handle this traffic.
“All this load goes through a not small city like Elbasan, and counting the load of pedestrians, so all this load goes through this important axis. Despite the involvement of the traffic police, the flow of traffic is increased and I think the solution should be to avoid the city and another road, not a road in the city of Elbasan”, said Perlat Hamitaj, traffic specialist.
The Elbasan bypass will start in the area where the Tirana-Elbasan highway ends and will end at the Elbasan exit, in the eastern part, where it will join the Elbasan-Përrenjas road, which is also undergoing another investment for its expansion. In its study of the bypass route, ARRSH has taken into account the Local General Plan of the Municipality of Elbasan. The new road will have two lanes, with a width of 3.75 meters each, where the emergency lane is also provided.
